During my first year of university we were assigned this project with the goal of getting us to explore Bath. We were tasked with illustrating a shopfront to then be screen printed in the studio.

I'm never one for traditional concepts, so when walking around the city centre I went looking for some odd shops. My search was short: I almost immediately bumped into Hardys Original Sweetshop, which had a giant plastic videogame controller made to look like chocolate in its window. There was no question about it: this was my shop.

Colouring is another thing I decided to have fun with. The examples we were given all had lifelike colours, but I simply was not interested in figuring out exactly what hue would be closest to the original.

Instead, I searched through the already existing mixes and found the brightest colours, looking for interesting contrasts. This landed me with a striking fluorescent pink, followed by some equally strong green and orange. These also follow the playful theme of the shopfront, and they remind me of colourful sweets.

This being my first time screen printing, there were bound to be mistakes. After misaligning the green in this print, I decided to simply go ahead and mismatch everything to obtain a rather interesting image.
