The brief: find a repeating aspect of your day and design a weekly diary.
This project happened during the second stretch of the pandemic, when I found myself stranded in a foreign country and having numerous calls every day. For the sake of the project I started keeping a physical diary of my calls, classifying them by category (family, friends, and university). I kept track of the duration of the call and who it was with, and eventually selected seven days out of four months to create an interesting design.
Just like the data, the design was developed and redeveloped over many months. I wanted to be as accurate as possible in showing when a call had begun and ended, and I managed to prepare a grid divided by the minute. This is the grid I used to create the red bands showing the physical duration of each call.
