The brief: research a culture and design an almanac to showcase it.
In the past decade the term 'social media culture' has become more and more used on the internet. It describes the trends, memes, and inside jokes within social media circles which shape the development of online communities. It's the fast-pacing evolution of trends that keeps the internet relevant and users' interest high. The internet passes through a different 'era' almost monthly nowadays, but there are a few significant steps which have become iconic in its timeline and are remembered fondly. This small booklet delves into the history of Youtube, highlighting the trends responsible for its outstanding success.

This project was supposed to produce a printable booklet, which posed a problem. Youtube is a website, it only exists in digital form and it's not confined by paper dimensions. I wanted the design to be unmistakable, anyone who looked at it needed to recognise it as relating to Youtube.
I researched Youtube's branding, starting with their font. The most important inspiration was their user interface, since it could be used as a guideline.
Once I started building the contents, it became clear that the best way to display them would be a through the video UI. Youtube allows to add chapters to a video, which can be used to jump from one section to another. This was perfect to define chapters in the booklet, and it helped to create a page format.
